HATTIESBURG, Miss. (AP) Larry Eustachy won his first home game at Southern Mississippi, with Jarekus Singleton scoring 22 points in a 65-62 win over Southeastern Louisiana on Wednesday.
Jonathan Patton missed a game-tying 3-pointer with 0.2 seconds remaining for Southeastern Louisiana.
Southern Miss (2-1) blew a 10-point lead in the second half and trailed 61-60 on a 3-point play by Nate Lofton with 1:42 remaining.
David Haywod gave the Golden Eagles (2-1) the lead for good in the closing moments when his 3-pointer made it 63-61, and Solomon Brown added two late free throws for Southern Miss.
Rashaad Carruth scored 12 points and Jasper Johnson had 11 for the Golden Eagles.
Lofton had 29 points to lead Southeastern Louisiana (3-1).
Eustachy, the Associated Press college coach of the year in 2000, returned to coaching this season after one year away from the game.
He was forced out at Iowa State after embarrassing photographs of him drinking beer and partying with college students were published last year in an Iowa newspaper.
Southern Miss won its fourth straight against Southeastern Louisiana.
