TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) Adam Waleskowski hit two free throws and a jumper to ignite a 20-4 scoring run to close the first half as Florida State pulled away from Shawnee State for an 88-65 victory on Wednesday night.
Alexander Johnson scored 14 points and grabbed nine rebounds, while Waleskowski and Von Wafer added 10 points each for the Seminoles (2-1), who were coming off a Monday night loss to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
Shawnee State (2-3), an NAIA school from Ohio, led 20-19 with 7:42 to play in the first half but couldn't keep pace. The Bears turned the ball over 20 times and were outscored 42-22 in the paint.
Adam Davenport led Shawnee State with 16 points and nine rebounds.
Florida State pushed its lead to 20 points six minutes into the second half and the Bears never got closer than 12. Nine Seminoles scored at least six points, led by the freshmen guard trio of Isaiah Swann, Ralph Mims and Jason Rich, who combined for 10 assists and 21 points on 7-of-13 shooting.
The two teams were paired in the second-round of the six-team Corpus Christi Challenge, which continues this weekend in Texas. Florida State will meet Kent State on Saturday and close the round-robin event Sunday against TCU.
