KENT, Ohio (AP) Jason Edwin scored 16 points to lead Kent State to a 76-58 win over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Wednesday in the Golden Flashes' home opener, part of the Corpus Christi Caller-Times Challenge.
Kent State (2-2) never trailed, opening with a 16-5 run in the first eight minutes. The team shot 46 percent from the field in the first half, and improved to 61 percent shooting in the second half.
All five starters scored in double figures. In addition to Edwin's 16 points, Jay Youngblood had 15, DeAndre Haynes added 13 and Scott Cutley and Kevin Warzynski had 10 each.
The score was 31-23 at the half, and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (2-1) could only pull to within six on Corey Lamkin's layup to start the second half. The Islanders trailed by as much as 27 points.
Thomas Bailey scored 12 points, and Lamkin added 10 for the Islanders.
