KENT, Ohio (AP) Jason Edwin scored 25 points and Kevin Warzynski added 20 to lead Kent State to an 81-72 win over Central Michigan on Wednesday night in the Mid-American Conference opener for both teams.
Edwin hit 10 of 15 shots from the field, including 4 of 6 from 3-point range, while Warzynski made 7 of 9 from the field and connected on 5 of 6 free throws.
Jay Youngblood had 11 points and DeAndre Haynes added eight points, nine assists, seven rebounds and three steals for the Golden Flashes (5-2).
Kevin Nelson led the Chippewas (2-2) with 23 points and Robert Sevalia scored 15 off the bench.
The Golden Flashes led 43-29 at the break on the strength of 53 percent shooting (16-for-30) in the first half, and they held onto their lead by making 15 of 27 shots (56 percent) after halftime.
Central Michigan shot 56 percent (14-for-25) in the second half after only going 12-for-27 (44 percent) from the floor in the opening 20 minutes.
