KALAMAZOO, Mich. (AP) Ben Reed scored a game-high 18 points, half of them on 3-pointers, to lead Western Michigan to a 64-48 victory over Detroit Mercy on Wednesday night for its 21st consecutive home win.
Point guard Rickey Willis tied a career high by scoring 10 points for Western (3-2), which has not lost at home since January 2003 and has the nation's fourth-longest home winning streak. Willis added a game-high six assists.
Ryvon Covile led Detroit (1-3) with 11 points and a game-high nine rebounds. James Thues scored 10 points despite missing 16 minutes in the first half after being whistled twice for fouls in the first 1:25.
The Titans, who handed Western one of its five losses last year, lost their third straight. Detroit turned the ball over 21 times and made 34 percent of its shots.
Reed helped Western put the game away by scoring eight points, assisting on a basket and getting a steal in a three-minute stretch that sent the Broncos ahead 36-27 with 11:42 left.
Western nearly tripled its shooting accuracy in the second half, hitting 60.9 percent of its shots, after making just six baskets in the first half to take a 22-15 lead into halftime.
