RICHMOND, Va. (AP) Nick George scored 20 points and Michael Doles and Jesse Pellot-Rosa added 15 each Wednesday night as Virginia Commonwealth beat Hampton 83-54.
The Rams (2-2) led 38-16 by halftime and never let their advantage shrink below 17 in the final 20 minutes, when they shot almost 58 percent and made 12 of 14 free throws.
Hampton (1-3) was led by Rashad West with 15 points and Devin Green with 12.
The Pirates ooutrebounded VCU 34-25 and grabbed 14 rebounds at the offensive end, but shot 44.8 percent and turned the ball over 23 times to just nine for the Rams.
Alexander Harper added 10 points, eight assists and four steals for VCU, which was rebounding from a 79-55 loss at Alabama Birmingham that coach Jeff Capel termed an embarrassment. The Rams are unbeaten in three meetings with Hampton in their history.
