WORCESTER, Mass. (AP) Sean Greenman scored 17 points, including two free throws in the final six seconds, and Judson Wallace added 14 points and seven rebounds as Princeton defeated Holy Cross 56-53 on Wednesday.
Princeton led 52-43 with 2:39 remaining after a 3-pointer from Greenman, but Greg Kinsey, who had 11 points, and a strong defense sparked a late rally for Holy Cross (3-1).
Nate Lufkin connected on a pair of free throws and Kinsey hit a 3-point field goal and a driving layup to cut Princeton's lead to 52-50 with 1:16 remaining.
Holy Cross had two more chances to tie. Torey Thomas drew a foul after a steal, but made only one free throw. After Matt Sargeant of Princeton and Kinsey traded two-pointers, Greenman converted two foul shoots to give the Tigers a 56-53 lead with six seconds left.
Thomas was fouled with three seconds left, but missed the first free throw. Deliberately missing the second attempt for a final attempt to tie, he grabbed a pass from John Hurley but his 3-point field goal try missed from the corner.
Keith Simmons led Holy Cross with 12 points.
Princeton's passing and defense set the tempo virtually throughout the game. Noah Savage and Greenman converted back-to-back 3-point field goals for an early 13-2 run and a 20-11 lead with 9:15 left in the first half.
Princeton (3-2) led 27-21 at halftime, shooting 52.4 percent from the floor.
