SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) Doron Perkins scored 10 of his game-high 18 points during a four-minute stretch in the second half that led to Santa Clara's 73-60 victory over San Jose State on Wednesday night.
Scott Dougherty matched his career high with 13 points for the Broncos (5-2), who beat San Jose State for the seventh time in eight games.
Marquin Chandler recorded his first double-double of the year with 14 points and 11 rebounds for the Spartans (2-2). Michael McFadden scored 12, all in the first half.
The Broncos scored the first 10 points of the second half to take a 46-33 edge as San Jose State committed seven turnovers in the first four minutes and missed its first eight shots, and 11 of 12. The Spartans were held scoreless for nearly seven minutes.
Santa Clara extended its lead to 53-36 after Travis Niesen, who scored a career high 31 points in an upset victory over Stanford on Sunday, hit a layup with 10:35 left to play. Niesen finished with 12 points.
The Broncos, who were a season best 11-for-22 from 3-point range, eventually led by as many as 25 points.
Santa Clara led by as many as seven points midway through the first half on the strength of its 3-point shooting (7-of-13), but the Spartans rallied to close within 36-33 at the intermission.
