OXFORD, Ohio (AP) Chet Mason scored 21 points and Danny Horace added 20 points and 17 rebounds to lead Miami (Ohio) to an 83-75 overtime win over Ball State on Saturday.
Miami (3-1, 1-0 Mid-American) led by as many as 17 points in the first half, but Ball State opened the second half with a 14-5 run, capped by Terrance Chapman's free throws to pull to 42-38 with 13:25 left.
The Cardinals (3-2, 0-1) took their first lead of the game with 3:52 left on a 3-pointer by Skip Mills to make it 59-58. The teams traded leads the rest of the way, and a layup by Ball State's Michael Bennett with one second to go sent the game into overtime with the score tied at 67.
Ball State took its only lead in overtime on Peyton Stovall's layup to open the period. Monty St. Clair tied the score with a jumper and the RedHawks went ahead on his only 3-pointer of the game.
Stovall led the Cardinals with 17 points and Chapman added 16. Mills scored 15 and Dennis Trammell had 12.
Miami led 35-24 at the half.
