SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) -- Marquin Chandler matched his career-high with 27 points and had 10 rebounds in leading San Jose State to a 69-50 victory over Cal Poly on Saturday.
Michael McFadden added a career-high 20 points as the Spartans (3-2) defeated Cal Poly for the 13th time in 15 meetings.
San Jose State is off to its best start in eight years, while the Mustangs (0-4) are off to their worst start since moving to Division I in 1994.
Tyler McGinn scored 12 points to lead the Mustangs, who have lost 13 of their last 16 road games. McGinn was 0-for-5 from the floor in his previous three games.
Chandler recorded his second straight double-double and the fifth of his career.
The Spartans jumped out to a double-digit lead in the second half and maintained a comfortable margin throughout. They never trailed after an early 2-0 deficit.
The Mustangs put themselves in a hole early. Derek Stockalper scored 48 seconds into the contest, but Cal Poly missed its next 16 shots. Mike Titchnel's basket more than 13 minutes later snapped the Mustangs' dry spell, during which the team committed 12 turnovers.
San Jose State scored 16 unanswered points, with Chandler contributing 10, and led by as many as 15 in the half.
The Spartans shot just under 29 percent from the field, allowing Cal Poly to creep within 26-20 by halftime.
