STATESBORO, Ga. (AP ) Ian Johnson scored 18 points to lead Davidson, which built a 21-point second half lead and then withstood a Georgia Southern comeback to beat the Eagles 84-76 Saturday night.
Logan Kosmalski and Jason Morton each added 15 points for the Wildcats (3-3) in the Southern Conference opener for both teams.
Leading 42-31 with 16:48 to go in the game, the Wildcats (3-3, 1-0) scored 10 straight points to grab their largest lead at 52-31. Georgia Southern (2-5) immediately cut the deficit to 14 as Terry Williams hit a 3-pointer and Willie Dunn and Louis Graham contributed lay-ups and the Eagles eventually cut the margin to 77-69, but got no closer.
Elton Nesbitt led the Eagles with 26 points and Williams added 17.
