San Francisco 84, Delaware 79
  •

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) Tyrone Riley matched his career high with 22 points, helping San Francisco hold off a late rally in an 84-79 victory over Delaware on Saturday night.

John Cox added 17 points and Jerome Gumbs had 14 points, including a key three-point play with 38 seconds left, for the Dons (2-3), who ended a two-game losing streak. Alan Wiggins scored a career-high 14 points.

Harding Nana scored 20 points for the Blue Hens (2-3) before fouling out with 2:20 to play. Andrew Washington added 16 points, but also fouled out in the final two minutes.

Mike Slattery's first 3-pointer of the second half gave him 100 for his career as the Blue Hens closed to within eight points. Slattery finished with 13 points.

San Francisco maintained a double-digit advantage most of the way, leading by as many as 16, before the Blue Hens made it interesting in the final four minutes, capitalizing on several turnovers to draw within 70-65.

Cox hit a 3-pointer from the corner moments later, but Delaware got within 77-74 when Robin Wentt sank one of two free throws.

Cox, who scored his 1,000th point in his last game, is closing in on such former San Francisco greats as James Hardy (1,075) and Joe Ellis (1,120).

Delaware, playing a two-game road trip in California for the first time in 10 years, is celebrating its 100th year in basketball and needs nine wins for 1,000.

Wiggins scored eight points in the first six minutes in helping the Dons take an early 15-9 lead. San Francisco eventually opened a 14-point advantage and settled for a 45-33 halftime lead.
