PRINCESS ANNE, Md. (AP) Aaron Williams and Terrance Hunter scored 16 points each to lead Delaware State past University of Maryland, Eastern Shore 65-55 on Saturday.
Williams made 10-of-12 from the free-throw line for Delaware State (2-5, 1-0 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference). He also had four rebounds and three assists.
Jason McKinnon scored 12 for UMES (1-3, 0-1) and grabbed four rebounds. Carl Pruitt and Corey Brown added another 10 points each.
Delaware State led at halftime 28-25.
In the first five minutes of the second half, Delaware State went on a 10-3 run, forcing four UMES turnovers. But, after a steal by Brown, the Hawks took a 41-40 lead with about 12 minutes left in the game.
The teams traded baskets until Jahsha Bluntt's dunk for Delaware State at 2:24. That sparked a 8-2 run that sealed the victory for the Hornets.
