CONWAY, S.C. (AP) Jason McLeish had 19 points to lead four Eastern Kentucky in double figures as the Colonels beat Coastal Carolina 77-62 Saturday.
Alonzo Hird added 17 points and 11 rebounds for the Colonels (5-0). Michael Haney added 16, and Matt Witt had 12.
Eastern Kentucky trailed 32-31 at halftime, but took the lead on a 10-2 run to start the second half.
The Chanticleers (0-6) closed to 41-37 on Clint Nagel's 3-pointer, but that was as close as Coastal Carolina would get. The Colonels went on a 8-2 run to widen the gap and never let their lead slip below six the rest of the way.
Eastern Kentucky hit 58.8 percent from the field, including 65.4 percent (17-for-26) in the second half. The Chanticleers out-rebounded the Colonels 32-31, but the Colonels outscored the Chanticleers 42-28 in the paint and 22-13 off turnovers.
Coastal was led by junior Pele Paelay with 14 points, while Nagel added 12. Alvin Green had a season-high 11 points and four assists.
