BOCA RATON, Fla. (AP) Tim Jennings scored 16 points to lead four Gardner-Webb players in double figures and lead the Bulldogs to a 76-69 win over winless Florida Atlantic on Saturday night.
Brian Bender added 15 pints and nine rebounds for Gardner-Webb (4-1, 2-0 Atlantic Sun) while Chris Gash and Simon Conn each contributed 14 points.
Mike Bell led FAU (0-4, 0-1) with 17 points and 10 rebounds, but the Owls were unable to recover from a cold-shooting first half (37 percent). Robert Williams added 11 points for the Owls.
Up 35-28 at halftime, the Bulldogs were never able to build a double-digit lead in the second half and a Williams layup with 1:29 left in the game cut the Gardner-Webb lead to 70-68.
However, Gash hit a jumper on the next possession to make it 72-68 and FAU could muster only one free throw the rest of the way. Bender and Gash hit a pair of free throws each to seal the win.
