SEATTLE (AP) Adam Morrison scored 12 of his 20 points in the second half and Ronny Turiaf finished with 19 points and 14 rebounds, leading Gonzaga to a 68-57 win over Massachusetts on Saturday.

J.P. Batista added 10 points for the Bulldogs (5-1), who came back strong from last weekend's embarrassing 89-72 loss to No. 5 Illinois. Since then, Gonzaga beat No. 14 Washington 99-87 and held off the Minutemen (2-2).

The Zags dominated the first half, but UMass - a preseason favorite in the Atlantic 10 - rallied to tie it at 40 with 10:50 remaining. Gonzaga outscored UMass 23-4 over an 8-minute span of the final 9½ minutes.

Maurice Maxwell led the Minutemen with 19 points while Anthony Anderson scored 14.

The Bulldogs dominated the first half and led 33-20 at the break, but everything changed when the Minutemen tightened their defense in the second half and charged back behind Maxwell's shooting.

Maxwell and Rashaun Freeman each had six points in a 15-3 run, and Maxwell hit a 3-pointer that pulled UMass to 40-38 with 12 minutes remaining. It was anybody's game one minute later when Stephane Lasme tied it at 40 with two free throws.

Turiaf scored nine of Gonzaga's next 12 points, but the Zags trailed 47-45 with 8:50 remaining after Lawrence Carrier's 3-pointer. Morrison made a 3-pointer for Gonzaga, igniting a 13-2 run that swung the lead to the Bulldogs for good.

The Minutemen couldn't keep up down the stretch, especially after Freeman fouled out with 3:42 to play and Lasme followed him with 2:31 to go. UMass

UMass led 13-8 midway through the first half, but there were early signs of trouble. Coach Steve Lappas worked the officials at full-throttle from the tip, but that couldn't offset his team's 14 first-half turnovers.

UMass committed 10 turnovers in the game's first 9½ minutes, just when Gonzaga used a 15-0 burst over a 7½-minute span to break away.

Batista scored the first three baskets in that run, and Turiaf capped it with an alley-oop dunk. That gave the Zags a 23-13 lead and brought fans from Gonzaga's "Kennel Club" were on their feet, barking at top volume.

For the second straight year, the Bulldogs made the cross-state trip to play a regular-season game in Seattle and perform for their fans on the west side of the Cascade Range.
