BALTIMORE (AP)_ Nicholas King scored 17 of his game-high 20 points in the second half, helping Coppin State defeat North Carolina A&T 67-53 in its home opener on Saturday night.
The game also was the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference opener for both schools, and Coppin State (1-4, 0-1) held North Carolina A&T (1-6, 0-1) to only two baskets in the final 12 minutes, 7 seconds and pulled away for the win.
King scored only three points in the first half as Coppin State wasted an early 13-1 lead, which the Aggies sliced to 37-36 at halftime.
But King made four 3-pointers in the second half as the Eagles scored 19 of the game's final 25 points. Freshman Darryl Roberts (17 points) and Darryl Proctor (15 points) helped the Coppin State offense take off.
Sean Booker made five of 11 from the field and led North Carolina A&T with 17 points. But the Aggies shot an abysmal 5-of-32 from the field in the second half and let the Eagles take charge.
