IRVINE, Calif (AP) Greg Ethington scored 19 of his career-high 24 points in the second half as UC Irvine rallied for an 81-69 victory over Sacramento State on Saturday night.
Ethington also grabbed eight rebounds and made 14 of 18 free throws, as the Anteaters (2-2) made 31 of 41 free throws as a team.
Ross Schraeder added 14 points and Patrick Sanders had 10 rebounds.
Jason Harris scored 15 points for the Hornets (1-4), who lost their third consecutive game. DaShawn Freeman added 12 points and Alex Bausley had 11.
Sacramento State, which led by as many as six points, held a 52-49 lead with 10:26 to play.
Then Irvine went on a 24-7 run to move ahead 73-59 with 2:13 left. Ethington led the run with 10 points.
The Anteaters made nine of their final 14 shots while the Hornets missed 17 of their final 24 field-goal attempts and went a span of 4:25 without scoring a basket.
