LYNCHBURG, Va. (AP) -- Larry Blair and Evan Risher hit 3-pointers in overtime as Liberty defeated Division III Shenandoah 86-82 Saturday night.
Liberty (1-3) scored seven of the first eight points in the extra period, which Shenandoah's Kenneth Purnell forced by hitting a 3-pointer with 51 seconds left to make it 71-71. Purnell missed a potential winning 3-pointer with two seconds left.
Blair and Risher opened overtime with 3-pointers to put the Flames ahead 77-71 with 4:01 to play. After each team hit a free throw, a jump shot by Chris Jenkins pulled Shenandoah (4-2) within four, 78-74, with 2:21 left. That was as close as the Hornets would get.
Blair led all scorers with 23 points, and David Dees added 22. Risher hit all three of his 3-point attempts and scored 19 points.
Jenkins scored 15 for the Hornets. Purnell added 14, and Jeremiah Lawrence and Onyie Onunaku scored 13 apiece.
Onunaku also had 17 rebounds.
