GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) Josh Lawrence scored 24 points, including 19 in the second half, to lead the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay to an 82-62 victory over Weber State on Saturday night.
Lawrence was one of four Phoenix players in double figures as Green Bay shot 66 percent from the field and improved to 4-1, its best start since the 1997-98 season.
Benito Flores scored 17 points off the bench, Ryan Evanochko added 14, and Javier Mendiburu had 11. Mendiburu also had 14 assists, while Flores set a single-game school record with seven steals.
Lance Allred, despite playing just 27 minutes because of foul trouble, led Weber State with 20 points. Terrell Stovall added 18.
Green Bay took control in the first half, erasing an early 10-8 deficit by outscoring Weber 25-6 over a span of 9 minutes, 40 seconds to take a 17-point lead.
Flores scored 10 points during that stretch, while Mendiburu had seven points and three assists.
Weber State, which shot just 28 percent from the floor in the first half, made a second-half run and pulled within 58-51 with 6:48 left.
But after a quick Green Bay timeout, Lawrence buried a 3-pointer from the top of the key to push the lead back to double digits. He hit two more 3s from the same spot over the next 2 minutes to help the Phoenix pull away.
