MURRAY, Ky. (AP) Antonio Haynes scored 20 points and led four Western Kentucky players in double figures as the Hilltoppers beat Murray State 82-72 Saturday night.
Ty Rogers scored 17 points, Courtney Lee had 12 and Elgrace Wilborn added 13 points and 11 rebounds for Western Kentucky (5-0). Trey Pearson scored 26 points for the Racers (3-2), and Issian Redding added 11.
Western Kentucky overcame a double-digit first-half deficit and dominated the second half. Rogers and Lee hit back-to-back 3-pointers near the 13-minute mark in the second half to give the Hilltoppers their first lead, 47-45.
The Hilltoppers led the rest of the game. Lee hit another shot from behind the arc with 5:33 left to put WKU up 63-49. Haynes connected on two free throws with 47.8 seconds left to give the Hilltoppers their biggest lead, 77-61.
The Racers hit three 3-pointers - two from Pearson - in the last 38 seconds, but Western secured its lead with 10-of-12 free throw shooting over the final minute.
The Hilltoppers shot 65.2 percent, including 70 percent from 3-point range, in the second half, after connecting on only 36.4 percent of their field goals in the first half.
The Racers were steady at 45.2 percent shooting in both halves, shooting 47.1 percent from behind the 3-point arc.
