AMHERST, N.Y. (AP) Levi Rost had a career-high 31 points to lead Western Michigan to a convincing 70-53 victory over Buffalo Saturday in the conference opener for both teams.
Rost set a school record by hitting nine 3-pointers, and was 10 of 16 from the floor, including 9 of 12 from beyond the arc.
Ben Reed chipped in 11 points and Brian Snider added 10 points for the Broncos (4-2, 1-0 Mid-American Conference), who won for the fourth straight time.
Western Michigan, the defending MAC champion, led by 16 at the break, and pushed its lead to 52-28 after Rost's final 3 of the game at 15:48. The Broncos led by as many as 29.
Buffalo (3-2, 0-1) was led by Daniel Gilbert's 13 points. Turner Battle added 12 points for the Bulls, who had their three game winning streak snapped.
Buffalo was held to 33 percent shooting and lost for the first time at home in nine games dating back to last season.
It was Western Michigan's first win in an away conference opener since 1983.
