CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) Tyrone Sally scored 17 points and Joe Herber added 15 to lead West Virginia to a 70-55 win over St. Bonaventure on Tuesday night.
St. Bonaventure fell to 0-6 for the first time in school history. West Virginia is 5-0 for the first time since 1997-98, the last season it reached the NCAA tournament.
St. Bonaventure transfer Mike Gansey added 14 points and 10 rebounds. He also led West Virginia's zone defense, which held the Bonnies to 36 percent shooting, their second worst output of the season.
St. Bonaventure was held to one field goal over the game's first nine minutes.
Gansey made consecutive lay-ins, then hit a 3-pointer to put West Virginia ahead 20-8. Another Gansey 3-pointer gave the Mountaineers their largest lead, 31-10, with 5:02 left in the first half.
West Virginia was ahead by 17 at halftime and the lead stayed in double digits throughout the second half.
The Mountaineers, averaging more than 10 3-pointers per game, made just 3-of-20 Tuesday night.
Patrick Lottin led St. Bonaventure with 14 points. Ahmad Smith added 12 points and 11 rebounds.
The game was the first between the schools since they were members of the Atlantic 10 in 1994-95.
