CLEVELAND (AP) -- DeAndre Hayes scored 20 points, including six straight during a 24-7 run that wiped out most of Cleveland State's 19-point lead, and Kent State rallied beat the Vikings 71-68 Saturday night.
Jason Edwin had nine points during the second-half run and finished with 12 for Kent State (7-2). Scott Cutley scored 13 points before fouling out and Kevin Warzynski had 10.
Patrick Tatham led Cleveland State (3-2) with 16 points. Omari Westley had 14 and Mike Redell had 10.
Kent State, trailing 39-29 at halftime, fell behind 48-29 on a Victor Morris 3-pointer, a Raheem Moss layoff and a layup and two free throws by Tatham.
Edwin's jumper with 16:36 to go made it 48-31 and began a run that cut Cleveland State's lead to 55-53 with 9:10 to go.
Kent State took the lead for good at 69-68 on Warzynski's jumper with 59 seconds to play. The Golden Flashes finished with free throws by Hayes with 21 seconds left and Warzynski with four seconds to go.
