CASPER, Wyo. (AP) -- Reggie Miller. Tracy McGrady. Fred Peete?

Peete stole an inbound pass, then scored eight points in the last 41 seconds, including a spinning layup with 1 second left to lift Kansas State to a 64-61 come-from-behind victory over Wyoming Saturday night in the Wyoming Shootout.

"I don't know that I've ever ben in a game like this, where everything had to go just right," Kansas State coach Jim Woolridge said.

The Wildcats (6-0) were down 58-53 with 1:14 left when Peete stole an inbound pass and called time-out while falling out of bounds. Lance Harris hit a 3-pointer on the ensuing possession to pull Kansas State within 58-56.

Dion Sherrell's free throws made it 60-56, but Peete scored on a putback to bring the Wildcats back with two. Jerry Webb's free throw gave the Cowboys (4-3) a 61-58 lead with 35.6 seconds left.

Peete's 3-pointer from the left wing tied the game with 25 seconds left; in the final seconds Peete recovered a long rebound and ran it the length of the court, spinning around Sherrell, who fouled him on the shot.

"I penetrated, and when I saw their big man cut me off I spun back to the basket and got fouled," Peete said. "I just knew that we needed points. We needed to score."

Peete's spinning scoop shot bounced in, and hiss free throw made it 64-61.

Peete's feat was reminiscent of Miller's miracle against the New York Knicks in 1995, when he scored eight points in the final 8.9 seconds to send the Indiana Pacers to a 107-105 win in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference semifinals.

Thursday night, McGrady scored 13 points in the last 35 seconds, including a game-winning 3-pointer with 1.7 seconds left, to lift the Houston Rockets to an 81-80 victory over the San Antonio Spurs.

Alex Dunn's last-second shot at the other end missed as the buzzer sounded.

Wyoming coach Steve McClain blamed himself for the loss, saying he should have called a time-out after Peete's 3-pointer to draw up a final play.

"I should have took a time-out. That's my fault," McClain said. "I ask them to be accountable, I should have to be accountable. I should have taken a time-out to make sure we got the last shot."

Peete finished with a career-high 24 points to lead the Wildcats. Harris scored 12, and Marques Hayden had 10.

Jay Straight scored 17 for Wyoming; Sherrell had 15, and Dunn 14.

Wyoming pulled ahead in the first half on the strength of its 3-point shooting. Straight hit a 3-pointer from the left wing with 9:27 left to for a 21-18 lead, and the Cowboys never trailed the rest of the half.

The Cowboys hit six of 15 3-point tries in the first half and led 32-30 at halftime.
