EDINBURG, Texas (AP) -- Calvin Watson scored seven of his 28 points in the final 1:17 as North Texas held off Texas-Pan American 92-85 Saturday night.
North Texas (3-3) led 50-35 at halftime thanks to 16 points from Watson. The Mean Green led by as many as 19 points in the second half.
But Texas-Pan American (4-3) rallied with outside shooting. Sergio Sanchez went 7-of-10 on 3-pointers and finished with 33 points. Chris Fagan's 3-pointer with 1:41 left brought the Broncs within 82-81.
But Watson answered with a 3-pointer to put the Mean Green 85-81 with 1:17 left, then hit four free throws in the final minute.
Ron Harris' layup put the Mean Green ahead 66-47 with 12:52 remaining. But Sanchez capped an 11-0 run with a 3-pointer to bring the Broncs within 66-58 with 9:17 left.
North Texas' Leonard Hopkins had 17 points and Justin Barnett added 13.
Fagan scored 14 points for Texas-Pan American.
