LONG BEACH, Calif. (AP) -- Pooh Jeter's off-balanced eight-footer at the buzzer gave Portland a 71-70 victory over Long Beach State on Saturday.
Jeter's game-winning basket came after the 49ers missed three shots from close range on their final possession with six seconds remaining in the game.
Jeter took an outlet pass and raced the length of the floor before making a winning shot. He made nine of 16 shots including four 3-pointers as the Pilots won their third straight and seven of eight.
Trailing 61-53 with 8:19 remaining in the game, Jeter scored eight points to lead the Pilots' (7-2) comeback.
Marcus Lewis scored 13 points and grabbed six rebounds for Portland, extending their record over the 49ers to 4-0.
Jibril Hodges led Long Beach State with 21 points, including five 3-pointers. Shawn Hawkins scored 12 points and Chris Jenkins added 11 for the 49ers (1-5).
Long Beach State out-rebounded Portland 34-30.
