VALPARAISO, Ind. (AP) -- Jaryd Loyd's free throw with two seconds left lifted Valparaiso to its first victory of the season over previously unbeaten Wisconsin-Milwaukee 72-71 Saturday.
The visiting Panthers, down by as many as seven points, 65-58, with 5:04 remaining, tied the game on a 3-pointer by Boo Davis with six seconds remaining. Loyd, fouled by Chris Hill on the next possession, missed one free throw but hit the second for the game-winner.
Valparaiso's Moussa Mbaye stole the ball on Wisconsin-Milwaukee's final possession to seal the victory.
Dan Oppland led Valparaiso (1-5) with 20 points, including 11-for-13 at the foul line, where the Crusaders outscored Wisconsin-Milwaukee 20-10.
Joah Tucker scored eight of the final 15 points for the Panthers (6-1) and also finished with 20.
Wisconsin-Milwaukee put up 32 shots from three-point range, making nine of them, but that was one less than the host Crusaders, who were 10-of-16 from long range.
The game had nine lead changes and seven ties, including 41-41 at halftime, and neither team led by more than seven points.
