SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) -- Guard Doron Perkins scored 14 of his 17 points in the second half to lead Santa Clara over Chico State 87-74 on Saturday.
Perkins, a senior from Anchorage, Alaska, twice dribbled the length of the court for baskets in a two-minute stretch that allowed the Broncos (7-4) to hold off the Wildcats (5-3.)
Chico State hung tough against a Broncos team that upset Stanford and No. 5 North Carolina earlier in the season.
Santa Clara led 42-36 at halftime. The Wildcats stayed close thanks to six three-point shots in the first half.
Senior center Will Bonner came off the Wildcats' bench for a team-high 15 points.
A pair of 3-pointers by Scott Land and Andy Butcher, respectively, brought Chico State to within two at 44-42, with 18:27 left in the game. But the Broncos, relying on superior speed and height, began to pull away.
Santa Clara out-rebounded the Wildcats, 51-35.
The Broncos' biggest lead was 20 points, 84-64, on a tip-in by Tristan Parham with 3:11 left to play.
Travis Niesen added 16 points for Santa Clara, half of those from the free throw line.
