RENO, Nev. (AP) -- Slim Millien scored 17 points and grabbed 12 rebounds to lead the Idaho State Bengals to a 71-67 win over Florida Atlantic and a third-place finish Saturday in the Dodge Holiday Classic.
The win came despite a 3-point barrage from the Owls. Florida Atlantic connected on 15-of-31 3-pointers, including 8-of-16 in the first half. But the Bengals dominated from the free-throw line, hitting 17-of-24 while the Owls hit just 2-of-4.
Florida Atlantic tied the game at 57 with 7:15 on Pierre Tuckers fadeaway with 7:15 to play.
But the Bengals slowly built a lead with a pair of unanswered field goals from Millien that gave Idaho State a 61-57 lead with 5:33. Jeff Gardner's 3-pointer and a pair of free throws from Logan Kinghorn gave Idaho State its largest second-half lead at 66-60 with 3:30 to play.
Idaho State took its largest of the game on Slim Milliens free throw with that gave the Bengals a 20-11 lead. But Florida Atlantic kept the game close thanks to the shooting of Tucker.
Tucker hit on all four of his 3-point attempts in the final 6:57 of the first half and added a 17-foot jumper, which tied the game at 33 with 18 seconds before halftime.
Kinghorn's 15-footer at the buzzer gave the Bengals a 35-33 halftime lead.
Tucker lead the Owls with 21 points and added eight rebounds and Mike Bell scored 20 points and grabbed nine rebounds. Gardner had 10 assists for the Bengals.
