BILOXI, Miss. (AP) -- Michael Ford made a lay-up with 1.1 seconds left in the second half to tie the score at the end of regulation, then hit four late free throws in overtime to lift Southern Mississippi to an 88-84 win Saturday over LSU at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum.
Jasper Johnson had a career-high 27 points for Southern Miss.
Ford, who finished with 10 points, made a pair of free throws with 19.7 seconds remaining in overtime to give Southern Mississippi (7-2) an 86-82 lead.
Following a basket from LSU's Brandon Bass, Ford connected on two more free throws with 5.8 seconds remaining to give the Golden Eagles their final margin of victory.
LSU (5-2) trailed in the first half, but took a sizable lead after the break.
The Golden Eagles had a 40-29 lead at halftime and lost it thanks in part to a seven-minute scoring drought.
LSU led 53-52 with 12:35 left. The Tigers led by as much as seven points before Southern Mississippi responded with a run of its own.
The Golden Eagles outscored LSU 15-8 over the final three minutes to send the game to overtime. That's when Ford took control and made the winning free throws.
Glen Davis led LSU with 27 points. Tack Minor added 17 and Darrel Mitchell had 14.
