BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (AP) -- Charlotte's Brendan Plavich had just enough time to beat Indiana.
Plavich caught an inbound pass from Curtis Withers with 0.7 seconds left, turned and heaved a game-winning shot from half-court to give the 49ers a 74-73 victory Wednesday.
The play had to be reviewed by the officials, and the decision drew boos from the small Assembly Hall crowd when it was announced.
It was the fourth straight win for Charlotte (7-2) and their first in four tries against the Hoosiers. Plavich finished with 21 points. Withers added 11 points and 10 rebounds.
Indiana (2-6) was led by Bracey Wright who scored 19 points despite playing with a broken nose. But the Hoosiers have now lost six straight _ their longest losing streak since 1967-68.
This loss, clearly, was the most painful because it appeared the skid would end after Pat Ewing Jr.'s tip-in gave the Hoosiers a 73-71 lead with 0.7 seconds left.
Charlotte then called timeout and took advantage of its second option _ Plavich from midcourt.
Wright rallied the Hoosiers in the second half by scoring 10 points in a 16-4 run that gave the Hoosiers a 53-49 lead.
But Charlotte rallied, regaining the lead on Chris Nance's dunk with 4:00 left.
Indiana tied the score at 68 on Robert Vaden's 3-pointer with 1:20 to go, then took the lead on Wright's 3 with 38.8 seconds left.
Ten seconds later, Plavich tied it again and after Ewing's tip, he won it with the desperation shot.
