HARRISONBURG, Va. (AP) -- Cliffone Ault scored 23 points and Howard survived a miserable second-half shooting performance to beat James Madison 68-65 Wednesday night.
Ault scored eight points in a 20-8 spurt, turning a 16-16 tie into a 36-24 Howard lead with 2:18 left in the first half. Ault started the run with a jumper and ended it with a 3-pointer. The lead was 10 at the break.
But after shooting 47 percent in the first half, Howard (4-5) cooled off to 30 percent in the second. Ault was only 8-of-28 for the game, and Louis Ford was 4-of-14.
James Madison (2-6) shot 53 percent from the field but had 20 turnovers to only six for Howard.
Ray Barbosa led James Madison with 13 points. Cavell Johnson and Chris Cathlin added 12 apiece.
Darryl Hudson scored 13 and Ford had 12 for Howard.
