EVANSTON, Ill. (AP) -- Vedran Vukusic scored 25 points and had 10 rebounds and Michael Thompson added 16 points to lead Northwestern to a 72-58 victory over Robert Morris on Wednesday night.
Northwestern (5-5) led the entire game and opened with a 19-4 lead. Thompson scored 13 points in the first half for Northwestern on 6-of-7 shooting and Vedran Vukusic added 12 on 5-of-7 shooting. Northwestern went up by 28 points late in the half on Vukusic's basket, making it 42-14. Robert Morris scored the last six points in the first half to cut Northwestern's lead to 42-20.
Vukusic made the first two free throws of the second half to put the Wildcats up 44-20, but Robert Morris answered with a 27-6 run. Mark Anderson and Derek Coleman both had seven points in the span for Robert Morris and as a team they had 5 3-pointers in the stretch.
Christopher Gooden's 3 cut Northwestern's lead to 50-47 with 10:18 left in the game, but that was the closest Robert Morris got.
Coleman scored 16 points for Robert Morris and Chaz McCrommon added 10 points and 11 rebounds.
