NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. (AP) -- Greg Jenkins had 23 points and 11 rebounds and Iona snapped a five-game losing streak with a 77-72 victory over Virginia Commonwealth on Wednesday night.
Ricky Soliver added 13 points, Kiril Wachsmann had 12 and Steve Burtt 11 for the Gaels (3-6).
B.A. Walker scored 21 points, Alexander Harper added 17 and Nick George had 13 for the Rams (4-4).
George, VCU's leading scorer with a 14.3 average, hurt his left ankle at the end of the first half and had just two free throws playing 9 minutes in the second half.
Wachsmann had 10 points and five rebounds as Iona a 35-31 halftime lead after there were five lead changes and four ties.
The Gaels led by as much as 52-40 after Tony Bruin scored with 13:02 left in the game.
The Rams narrowed the margin to 62-59 on a 3 by Harper with 4:14 left, but got no closer.
Iona, which finished with a 43-33 rebound advantage, made 10 free throws over the final 1:08, including four by Jenkins and two each by Soliver, Burtt and Marvin McCullough.
