LARAMIE, Wyo. (AP) -- Dion Sherrell hit two free throws with 14.2 seconds left and Derek Wabbington iced the game with one final foul shot as Wyoming beat Washington State 49-47 on Wednesday night.

It was the fifth consecutive game decided by five or fewer points for the Cowboys (6-3).

Wyoming led 43-29 with 5:03 left, but Washington State (5-4) got a pair of 3-pointers from Thomas Kelati and the Cowboys hit just five of 13 free throws in the second half before Sherrell's.

Jeff Varem scored a layup with 7.6 seconds left to bring the Cougars within 48-45. Wabbington went to the line with 6.7 seconds left; he missed the first free throw, but hit the second to put the game away.

Varem had an uncontested dunk with 1.3 seconds left, but there wasn't time for the Cougars to score again.

Jay Straight led Wyoming with 13 points, all in the first half. Justin Williams had 10 rebounds.

Kelati led Washington State with 16 points.

The Cowboys at first seemed stumped by Washington State's aggressive defense, falling behind 10-4 in the opening minutes.

But Wyoming found its touch from 3-point range, and a 14-0 run put the Cowboys up for good. Straight tied the game 10-10 on a driving layup with 8:17 left in the first half, then hit a 3-pointer _ the first 3-pointer of the game _ for the go-ahead basket.

Meanwhile, the Cougars hit a shooting slump, going scoreless almost 7½ minutes before Kelati hit a 3-pointer to pull the visitors within 18-13. Washington State hit just 6-of-25 from the field in the first half.
