SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) -- Curtis Withers scored 18 points and grabbed 13 rebounds, leading Charlotte to a 66-52 victory over Central Connecticut State in the championship game of the Cable Car Classic on Wednesday night.
Brendan Plavin added 12 points as the 49ers (9-2) extended their longest winning streak in three years to six games. Eddie Basden added nine points and 16 rebounds.
DeMario Anderson scored 13 points for the Blue Devils (3-6), who lost for the sixth time in eight games. Javier Mojica added 11.
Charlotte won their second Cable Car Classic, having also won it in 1993.
With Withers, named the tournament MVP, and Basden dominating the boards, Charlotte held a 52-29 rebounding edge.
The 49ers led most of the second half but they needed a late 14-0 run to pull away in the final five minutes.
Charlotte charged to an early lead but the Blue Devils came back to grab a 25-21 advantage when Anderson broke loose for a pair of easy baskets.
The 49ers held Central Connecticut State scoreless over the final 4:30 of the half and scored the final five points to take a 26-25 edge at halftime. Withers broke the tie making one of two free throws.
Charlotte made just one of 10 3-point attempts in the half.
Yale defeated Santa Clara 90-84 in overtime in the consolation game.
