BOSTON (AP) -- Craig Smith hit a 12-foot jumper as time expired as Boston College came back from an 18 point deficit to beat Kent State 67-65 on Wednesday night.

Jared Dudley led Boston College (10-0) with 21 points, as the Eagles, who never led until the final buzzer, extended their best start since the 2000-2001 team opened the season 11-0.

With the game tied at 65, DeAndre Haynes missed a pair of free throws for Kent State (8-3). Smith then took the inbounds pass and drove the length of the court before pulling up and sinking the game-winner.

Down by 14 with 13:59 left, Boston College pulled even on the strength of a 14-0 run capped by a pair of Sean Williams baskets that tied the game at 56 with 6:01 left.

The Golden Flashes pulled ahead 65-60 with 1:39 left, but Jared Dudley buried a 3-pointer and Jermaine Watson converted a layup off a steal to bring the Eagles even with 1:06 left.

Kent State led by as much as 41-23 during the first half. Guards Jay Youngblood and Armon Gates led the charge, combining for 22 first-half points as the Golden Flashes took a 43-29 lead at halftime.

Gates led Kent State with a career-high 16 points and Youngblood added 12 points.

Sean Williams scored 15 points and Smith added 11 for BC.
