ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) -- Yakhouba Diawara scored 20 points to lead Pepperdine to a 74-62 win over Mississippi Valley State in the consolation game of the Lobo Invitational on Wednesday night.
Diawara hit a 3-pointer and a free throw to spark an 8-0 run for Pepperdine late in the second half that put the game out of reach.
The Waves (9-5) used their size inside to control the boards. The team finished with 40 rebounds, compared to Mississippi Valley State's 24. Glen McGowan led Pepperdine with 11 rebounds, while teammate Alex Acker grabbed nine.
In addition to Diawara, three other Pepperdine players finished in double figures. McGowan and Acker had 16 points each and Russell Hicks added 11 first-half points.
Sophomore Jeffrey Price led the Delta Devils (2-7) with 19 points. Kelvin McCoy scored 12 and Hosea Butler added 10.
McGowan and Hicks helped Pepperdine maintain a slim margin in the first half. By the break, McGowan had 10 points and seven rebounds, while Hicks had 11 points and four boards.
A 3-pointer at the buzzer by Acker gave the Waves a 38-32 halftime lead.
