BOISE, Idaho (AP) -- Jason Williams and Omar Thomas each scored 19 points and Filiberto Rivera added 18 to lead Texas El Paso to a 91-77 victory over Boise State Saturday in a Western Athletic Conference opener.
Rivera also had 8 assists.
The Miners (11-2, 1-0) shot 53 percent from the field, including 13 of 22 from 3-point range to compile the most points against Boise State in a regulation game since 1982. The previous high was 89 points by Montana State in 1995.
Boise State (6-6, 0-1) was led by Eric Lane with 22 points, including five 3-pointers. Jermaine Blackburn added 15 points and Franco Harris had 11.
The Miners opened a 64-42 lead early in the second half, but the Broncos capped a 17-5 run with successive 3-pointers by Harris, narrowing the UTEP lead to 69-59 with 12:05 left in the game. The Miners responded with a 13-2 run of their own to build an 82-61 lead with 7:25 left in the game.
Miguel Ayala rounded out UTEP scorers with 14 points, including two successive 3-pointers in the Miners' late second-half run. Giovanni St. Amant added 13.
UTEP was perfect from the free-throw line, hitting all 10 shots. Boise State scored its share from the long range, hitting 12 of 21. Lane kept the Broncos from being blown away in the final minutes, hitting 10 straight points in the final five minutes.
