PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) -- Seamus Boxley scored 25 points and grabbed eight rebounds as Portland State beat Weber State 73-62 on Saturday in the Big Sky Conference opener for both teams.
Jake Schroeder scored 17 points for the Vikings (9-4, 1-0), who won their fifth straight game. Antone Jarrell added 10 points and Will Funn had a team-high 12 assists for Portland State, who broke a five-game losing streak to Weber State.
Lance Allred led Weber State (4-8, 0-1) with 20 points and 11 rebounds, including a jumper at the buzzer to give Weber State a 28-27 lead at halftime. Troy Goodell added 15 points for the Wildcats and Terrell Stovall had 12 points.
After trailing at the break, Portland State rallied to a 10-point lead at 53-43 with 8:45 left to play.
A breakaway ally-oop from Funn to Jarrell put the Vikings up 63-53 with 4:26 left to play. Portland State was in control the rest of the way.
The Vikings defense put the clamps on the Wildcats, holding them to 38 percent shooting for the game and blocking 13 shots. Meanwhile, Portland State shot 52 percent from the field, including 41 percent from beyond the 3-point line.
