HAMMOND, La. (AP) -- Terry Bryant scored 12 points, including a pair of free throws with 5.7 seconds left, to give SE Louisiana a 60-56 win over Lamar in the Southland Conference opener for both teams Wednesday.
Jonathan Patton scored 16 points to lead four players in double figures as Southeastern (9-5, 1-0 SLC) held Lamar (8-4, 0-1 SLC) to 27 points under their conference-leading average. Nate Lofton added 12 points for the Lions, while Ricky Woods added 11.
The Cardinals held the Lions without a field goal for the final 6:42 of the first half and closed to 28-25 on a pair of free throws by Mike Levy, but the Lions took a 32-27 lead into the half.
A 3-pointer by Alan Daniels cut the Southeastern lead to 40-38 with 12:06 remaining in the game, but Patton answered with a 3-pointer and a Lofton dunk pushed the lead back to 45-38 with 11:10 left.
Southeastern led 45-42 before going on a 7-0 run as Lofton hit a jumper in the lane, Neill Berry drilled a 3-pointer and a dunk by Patton off a Bryant steal gave Southeastern a 52-42 advantage with 6:48 left.
Thomas Fairley led Lamar, which had its four-game winning streak snapped, with 12 points and a game-high nine rebounds while Raymond Anthony added 11 points and Daniels had 10.
