FAIRFAX, Va. _ Michael Doles scored a career-high 22 points and Virginia Commonwealth broke a three-game losing streak with an 81-74 victory over George Mason on Wednesday.
B.A. Walker had 21 points and Nick George added 20 points and 12 rebounds to lead the Rams (5-6, 1-1 Colonial Athletic Association).
Jai Lewis had 22 points and seven rebounds to lead George Mason (6-5, 1-1). Lamar Butler added 18 points and Tony Skinn 17 for the Patriots.
After Doles' 3-pointer gave Virginia Commonwealth a 65-51 lead with 4:35 remaining, the Rams scored their final 16 points on free throws to thwart George Mason's comeback.
Skinn's two foul shots pulled the Patriots within three at 71-68 with 46 seconds remaining, but the Rams were perfect on 10 free throws from there, including eight by Walker.
