CONWAY, S.C. (AP) -- Jack Leasure scored 24 points, including five 3-pointers, to lead Coastal Carolina over Winthrop 76-68 on Wednesday night to open Big South Conference play.
Leasure, who hit four of his 3-pointers in the first half, led four scorers in double-digits. Pele Paelay scored 17 points, while Alvin Green had 14 and Moses Sonko added 10 for the Chanticleers (4-9), who led 40-31 at half.
The Eagles (9-5) were led by Otis Daniels, who had 18 points and seven rebounds. Martin and Scott Draughn each added 14 points.
Michael Jenkins made a 3-pointer to cut Winthrop's deficit to seven with 34 seconds left, but Coastal Carolina held on for the win.
