JACKSON, Miss. (AP) -- Antonio Williams-Parker scored 17 points and Kelly Ross added 14 to lead Jackson State to a 70-58 win over Alcorn State on Saturday night.
Jackson State (5-10, 1-2 Southwestern Athletic Conference) ended its two-game losing streak, but the Tigers had to halt a second-half run to secure the win.
Alcorn State (2-11, 1-2) trailed for most of the game but moved closer by outscoring Jackson State 12-4 over a five-minute span in the second half. The run pulled the Braves to within one, 44-43, with 11 minutes remaining. That's when Ross scored eight of Jackson State's next 10 points to push the lead back to 54-45 with 6:40 left and Alcorn State could come no closer.
Jackson State used a 13-2 run during a four-minute stretch of the first half to take a 30-22 lead with 2:11 remaining.
Alcorn State made only one field goal in the final six minutes of the first half and Jackson State held a 36-27 lead at the break.
Jackson State held the Braves to 39 percent shooting in the second half and forced 23 turnovers for the game.
Charlie White added 11 points and Hilton Tompkins 10 for Jackson State, which shot 42 percent.
DeAndre Jones led Alcorn State with a game-high 20 points and Delvin Thompson added 19.
