NORMAN, Okla. (AP) -- Kevin Bookout scored a career-high 27 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to help Oklahoma open Big 12 Conference play with an 85-55 win over Colorado Saturday.
Oklahoma (11-2, 1-0) won its fifth consecutive game with a dominating inside performance against the Buffaloes (8-4, 0-1). The Sooners outrebounded Colorado 48-35 and shot 55 percent from the floor to win their ninth game in the last 10.
Oklahoma opened the game on a 15-2 run with all but three points coming off lay ups.
Oklahoma dominated underneath the basket in the first half, scoring 24 of its 44 points from less than three feet away. Thirty of Oklahoma's 44 first half points came from less than five feet from the goal.
The Sooners outrebounded the Buffaloes 19-15 and shot 55 percent from the floor in the first half.
Taj Gray gave the Sooners a 15-point lead going into halftime, hitting one of two free throws with less than a second remaining.
Oklahoma started the second half on an 11-0 run and extended its lead to as much as 31 with more than six minutes remaining.
Richard Roby led Colorado with 12 points. Jayson Obazuaye was next for the Buffaloes with nine.
The Sooners did have a scare late in the second half when senior Johnnie Gilbert went down away from the ball holding his left ankle. After the game it was announced that Gilbert suffered a partially torn tendon in the bottom of his foot. He will be re-examined Sunday and is day-to-day.
Four Oklahoma players scored in double figures, with Gray, Terrell Everett and Lawrence McKenzie chipping in 10 or more.
Gray's 11 rebound performance was the sixth time this season he has had at least 11 rebounds in a game for the Sooners.
