JONESBORO, Ark. (AP) -- Dewarick Spencer hit a pair of 3-pointers with 1:31 left in the game to give Arkansas State a 60-55 win over Florida International on Saturday.
Spencer hit his first of the two game-winning shots from the right wing before Florida International (7-7) took the ball down the court and ran 25 seconds off the clock. Junior Mathias was called for traveling and Arkansas State (9-5) got the ball back.
Dereke Tipler threw the ball in bounds to Spencer, who hit the second 3-pointer with 12 seconds left to seal the win for Arkansas State. The assist was one of Tipler's nine for the game.
Spencer had 13 points for Arkansas State (9-5), which was led by J.J. Montgomery's 22. However overall Arkansas State did now shoot well from the field, going 21-of-59 for 35.6 percent. Despite Spencer's pair of game-winning 3-pointers, ASU shot cold from the arc as well, going 5-of-21 for 23.8 percent.
Junior Matias led Florida International with 16 points. Ivan Almonte and Jayce Lewis each had 13 points and Byron Burnett had 11 rebounds. Florida International had 23 turnovers, allowing Arkansas State to score 19 points. Arkansas State had nine turnovers, allowing just eight points.
