CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) -- Warren McLendon scored 19 points and pulled down 11 rebounds to lead The Citadel to a 76-65 victory over Georgia Southern on Saturday afternoon.
McLendon went 6-for-13 and Kevin Hammack added 13 points for the Bulldogs (9-3, 2-1 Southern Conference), who took a 35-29 lead into halftime on Travis Smith's 3-pointer from half-court that beat the buzzer.
The Bulldogs, who held Georgia Southern to 29 percent shooting, extended their halftime lead to 40-32 four minutes into the second half.
Georgia Southern (6-7, 1-2) was led by Terry Williams and Donte Gennie, who both scored 12 points. Jean Francois added ten and pulled down seven rebounds.
The Eagles started the game with a 7-2 lead. The Citadel went on a 9-2 run to take the lead, but neither team had more than a six-point lead in the first half.
