ROSEMONT, Ill. (AP) -- Quemont Greer scored 20 points and had 11 rebounds to lead DePaul to a 68-57 victory over Houston on Saturday.
Coming off a lopsided loss in its Conference USA opener against Cincinnati, DePaul trailed by as many as 17 points in the first half Saturday.
But the Blue Demons cut into Houston's lead with eight straight points, and with 14:08 left in the second half, Drake Diener hit a 3-pointer to give DePaul its first lead of the game, 38-37.
DePaul never trailed again as it won its first conference game of the season. Diener fouled out with 14 points, while LaVar Seals had 13 for DePaul (9-4, 1-1).
Houston head coach Tom Penders was issued a technical for criticizing an official with 1:52 left in the game. Seals hit the two free throws to give DePaul a 63-56 lead.
Ramon Dyer scored 18 points and Andre Owens had 17 for Houston, who upset Louisville in their Conference USA opener on Wednesday night.
Houston (9-6, 1-1) led 11-0 in the opening minutes of the game. Dyer hit back-to-back 3's to start the game and Owens followed with another 3 and then had a dunk. Houston extended their lead in the first half to 26-9 after Chris Lawson hit a 3 and then had a steal and a layup.
Houston led 31-24 at the half. Owens had 11 points for Houston and Greer had 10 for DePaul at the half.
DePaul was 27-35 from the free-throw line. Houston was 8-17 from the line.
