NEW ORLEANS (AP) -- Bo McCalebb scored 34 points and had four assists to lead New Orleans to a 71-51 win over South Alabama on Saturday.
New Orleans led 34-23 at halftime on 48 percent shooting in the first half and kept up the pace in the second half with 39 percent shooting.
McCalebb was 13-of-18 from the field, hit 7-of-13 free throws and had four assists. Shawn Malloy added 13 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for New Orleans (6-8, 1-0 Sun Belt Conference).
Mario Jointer led South Alabama (3-10, 0-2) with 17 points and six rebounds. Jacque Pate added nine points for the Jaguars. For the game, South Alabama hit only 29 percent of its shots from the field and was 6-of-22 from the 3-point range.
The Privateers scored 28 points in the paint and 18 points off of turnovers. The Jaguars had only eight points in the paint and 11 off of turnovers.
New Orleans outrebounded South Alabama 42-36.
